Union Catholic Faculty Member Asked to Speak at Montclair State University
On November 9, Union Catholic faculty member Kamila Ciringione was asked to speak at a Career and Internship Night at Montclair State University, of which she is an alumna. Kamila’s interesting professional background made her an ideal candidate to speak about potential careers stemming from a language degree.
During her undergraduate career at Montclair State, Kamila pursued a BA in French Translation and two minors in Criminal Justice and International Studies while working at Newark Airport as a Worldwide Flight Services Passenger Service Agent. Upon graduating, she applied to the Federal Government and worked for the Department of Homeland Security in Citizenship and Immigration Services. Her fluency in Polish, French and English, and novice knowledge of Spanish, served her well in both of these jobs. As her family began to grow, Kamila's career path led her to teach at Union Catholic, where she is in her fourth year and teaching French 1 and 2 at the Regular and Honors levels.
At the Career and Internship Night, Kamila encouraged students to make and keep connections with the people they meet and to make good impressions and stand out in a positive way in each job. “You have to make the language work for you in any career,” said Kamila. “Seek beyond the traditional translation-interpreting careers and search other out-of-the-box jobs that require language skills.” Reception of her presentation was very positive and Kamila was honored to be remembered and distinguished in such a way.
